Introduction
What is Crucible of Fate?
Crucible of Fate (CoF) is a high stakes D&D game show, hosted at The Fate’s Hand Tavern, deep within a cursed Abyssal demi-plane in my homebrew world of Shadow’s Nigh. The objective of CoF is to survive the Crucible and emerge victorious as the Champion, liberating your soul from eternal damnation and returning to the Material Plane!
Official Rules and Format
Please find the rules for Crucible of Fate in this section. At its most basic, game play within Crucible of Fate adheres to the rules of D&D 5E. However, the rules override or provide additional guidance in place of, or in addition to, the 5E rules as written within official Wizards of the Coast (WotC) publications and Sage Advice.
Introduction
How long your PC survives will be determined by your ability to craft a 5E D&D character, then devise and execute a corresponding strategy of how to use your character’s abilities and features to avoid death throughout the entire season of Crucible of Fate.
In the first round, 20 episodes will be played, each with six Level 3 contestants. A total of 120 total contestants will enter the competition.
Every episode will begin with six contestants, and within each episode, up to three competitive games will be played. Typically, one character will die in each game, but the survivors will level up between each game. This means three contestants must die before the episode concludes, and those that survive an episode will have gained three levels and will advance to the next round.
To be clear—three contestants must die in every episode.
This means Round 2 will begin with 60 Level 6 contestants, Round 3 with 30 Level 9 contestants, Round 4 will contain fifteen Level 12 contestants, and finally in the culmination of the Crucible of Fate competition, 6 Level 15 finalists will compete in the Crucible of Fate finale.
